In early January 2025, few Americans outside international development circles had ever heard of USAID. By the end of March, the world’s largest donor of global development aid had been dismantled.

For two decades, I have had the privilege of documenting the stories of people whose lives have been forever changed by the kindness of Americans they have never met.

Allow me to introduce you to just a handful of the millions of people around the world your tax dollars have helped over the years. And invite you to imagine how these cuts may ripple through their lives over the months and years to come.
